Journey Within

Here is another visualisation for you. This one can help you find a safe inner place to return to whenever you need to. It is based on a section of the novel Time in Mind by Kathlyn S Starbuck. I am grateful for her permission to use it here as it was the first visualisation I ever used and I have found it very helpful.

You might find it easier to record this first, so that you can listen to it with your eyes shut. If you do, you may wish to leave plenty of pauses.

The journey

You are standing in darkness. Ahead of you, a flight of steps leads downwards. Each step is bathed in a different coloured light, and as you stand on each step you absorb the energies of the coloured light. You step down and are surrounded by red light and you can feel it filling you with energy. Down into orange light, feel it's warmth surround you. Down into yellow light, pure like sunlight. Down into green, feel the strength and beauty of nature in you. Down into blue, pure heavenly light. Down onto the last step, which is surrounded by purple light , the colour of spiritual power. Ahead of you is a waterfall of pure white light. As you walk forward, you may like to stand under the waterfall and feel it cleansing and refreshing you.

Now you are able to see where you are, standing amongst trees. You are in a place where no one else may come unless you invite them, and nothing can harm you. The path you are on leads through the trees. Look at them, what kind of trees are they? As you walk along this path, you see and hear to your left a stream as it gurgles over its rocky bed. Notice whether it is wide, narrow, fast or slow. Can you hear birdsong or the wind in the tops of the trees? Take time to enjoy the scene.

You now come out into an open space. In front of you is a field, and the trees surround it completely. The only way in is the way you came. The stream has widened out into a pool, and also in the field is a rock. Have a good look around you. Is the pool wide or small, deep or shallow? If you want to, then you can bathe, swim or paddle in it. What colour is the rock and what shape? Perhaps it feels cold to the touch, or maybe it has been warmed by the sun.

In the very centre of the field is a building. This is your safe place. See what the building looks like from the outside. You may wish to enter by a door, or you can find yourself inside just by wanting to be there. If you want to go there now, then you can simply picture yourself inside. Take a look around, at the walls, floor and ceiling. This is your place to furnish as you like. You may have wall hangings, a fireplace, tables, chairs, windows ..... take time to get this place exactly as you would like it to be. This is a place to return to when you want to meet a guide, or do other inner work.

But now it is time to go back. After you leave your building, retrace your footsteps, through the field, past the rock and the pool, and back along the path beside the stream, and through the trees. Passing again through the waterfall of light, you come to the steps. As you step up, with each step you become more aware of your surroundings. Take your time on each step to feel yourself absorbing energy and becomng more alert. You step up through purple light, then blue, green, yellow, orange and finally red. As you take a final step up, you are ready to open your eyes and be fully alert and refreshed.
